About The Role
We currently have several exciting shift operator opportunities within our unionised team for Experienced Operators to join our Operations Team. Reporting to the Shift Production Team Leader, the role will be responsible for the safe start up, shutdown, monitoring and adjustment of the refinery process and associated Utility and storage / logistic areas.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Process Monitoring and adjustment and taking corrective action to stay within defined operating window.
- Monitoring of Critical Equipment and making timely interventions
- Performing defined tasks and checks on equipment at the prescribed frequency and recording the findings.
- Taking samples and testing in the plant laboratory
- Initiate appropriate response to abnormal conditions including Emergency Response
- The preparation of equipment and handover to Maintenance
- The progression of Minor Maintenance tasks
- Raising Maintenance notifications in the SAP System
- Issue Permits for work activities on the unit, including carrying out field safety verification (such as gas tests)
- Raise Health, Safety, Environment and Quality issues and report them in the appropriate system.
- Accurately record activities undertaken during the shift and do a comprehensive handover to the oncoming shift.
- Participate in the ‘Start of Shift’ Meeting
- Support the planning and execution of Major Maintenance events (Turnarounds)
- Participate the improved teams / site processes such as Safety & Environment Focal Point meetings.
- Participate in Incident Investigations
- Participate in developing and updating Operational procedures.
About You
We are seeking candidates with:
- A recognised qualification in Process Plant Operations (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) – essential
- Further qualifications (e.g. HNC) – preferred
- Proven operating experience within the process industry – essential
- A strong understanding of process hazards and safety practices
- The ability to interpret plant drawings and apply knowledge to operations and maintenance activities
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage at all levels of the business
- Competence in IT systems and analytical problem-solving
- A collaborative, team-focused approach
- Willingness to work towards Permit to Work Signatory and Authorised Gas Tester status
