Authorise and oversee high-voltage operations, electrical safety documents and risk assessments. Ensuring full compliance with HSSE standards and statutory regulations. Lead the management of all electrical integrity, safety and legislative requirements within the PU, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, asset lifecycle optimisation and future equipment replacement programmes.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Act as the Process Unit (PU) electrical engineering specialist, providing expert guidance on electrical safety, maintenance, reliability and design activities.
  • Ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations, company standards and all applicable electrical engineering legislation and procedures.
  • Provide technical electrical engineering support to operational, maintenance and project teams across the PU.
  • Serve as the electrical focal point for plant modifications, projects and Process Change Requests (PCRs), ensuring technical integrity and compliance throughout.
  • Manage and coordinate high and low voltage electrical distribution activities, including switching operations, isolation planning and maintenance programmes.
  • Review electrical inspection reports, audit findings and action plans, ensuring corrective actions are developed, implemented and tracked to completion.
  • Contribute to the development of site-wide electrical engineering standards and best practices.
  • Develop, plan and deliver electrical shutdown and temporary power supply scopes, ensuring safe and efficient execution.
  • Maintain clear ownership, documentation and demarcation of electrical systems, responsibilities and interfaces across operational areas.
  • Authorise high-voltage work activities and approve associated safety documentation, including safety certificates, control sheets, excavation permits and method statements.
  • Manage specialist electrical service contracts and contractors, ensuring work is delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with business requirements.
  • Provide site-wide emergency electrical engineering cover as required.
  • Fulfil the role of Senior Authorised Electrical Person, ensuring the safe operation, maintenance and isolation of high and low voltage systems under your control.
  • Undertake and support electrical risk assessments, safe systems of work and permit-to-work activities associated with electrical installations and equipment.
  • Assess and verify the competency of electrical and non-electrical personnel in relation to electrical safety rules, procedures and authorisations.
  • Lead or support investigations into electrical incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and driving improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote a positive electrical safety culture through leadership, coaching, toolbox talks, mentoring and technical training initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, electrical system performance and lifecycle management through continuous improvement and asset replacement programmes.

About You

You will have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship and hold relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds, NVQ, ONC, HNC, or an equivalent engineering qualification. You will possess a strong technical understanding of hazardous area classification, electrical equipment and the management of assets within hazardous environments, together with sound knowledge of petrochemical repair and manufacturing techniques gained across both workshop and operational plant settings.

You will demonstrate a good understanding of engineering quality management systems, operational and safety procedures, and applicable legislative and regulatory requirements within a high-hazard industrial environment. Experience of using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems, particularly SAP, is desirable, alongside the ability to effectively manage and prioritise maintenance activities.

With strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and key stakeholders.
